      Happy (Belated) Mommy's Day!

I'm sorry I have neglected the blog a little lately.. I was out of town for a couple days and ended up getting a nasty sinus infection. I just hope this is natures way of getting all the germs out so I don't have to worry about anything for the rest of the summer! Wishful thinking?

Anyway, I hope all you mommies had a great Mother's Day! Tyler and Ricki made the day so special for me starting with my favorite guilty food, a McGriddle with no cheese and an Iced Latte with whipped cream, waiting for me when I woke up. After church we went to one of my favorite breakfast spots, Zada Janes, they let me take a nap, and then we walked to the park with the dogs because it was so beautiful outside! The best gift of all though was just getting to spend time with them, so I guess everyday is Mother's Day for me! Minus the whole nap thing, which I strongly believe should be a requirement for all adults.

What I Wore: Dressing for Transitional Weather

Are you as tired of hearing about the weather as I am? It's the go to awkward conversation starter that everyone is guilty of, but really, how crazy has it been this year? I don't know about where you live, but in Charlotte it will be warm one day and then freezing the next. Hopefully the warm weather is here to stay for a little while! However, I'm just so thankful we don't have to worry about the awful tornadoes and hurricanes so many other people have to deal with, especially this time of year.

So, if you're like me and beyond ready to wear all of the cute sundresses that have been hanging in the back of your closet for what seems like an eternity, it's time to pull them back out! If you live somewhere that it gets a little cold at night, or even during the day, try layering a cute crochet over it. I also love this look for the summer with a lightweight lace tank or tshirt for an easy way to dress up a simple dress.

If you follow me on Twitter (@EmilyMaynard) you might remember me asking what color you all liked in these Vanessa Mooney by DV heels. Well, I took your advice and got the nude! Let me tell you, the last thing I needed was another pair of nude shoes, but I LOVE them and had people asking me all day where I got them! I also love them with a pair of rolled up boyfriend jeans.. I'll do a post on that later :)

Last thing.. you can now shop your favorite bloggers Instagram pictures! Just sign up at liketoknow.it and then every time you "like" a picture on Instagram, you get all the details and links sent straight to your inbox!

PS-- Sorry for the awful pictures! As much as I love Tyler, iPhone photography is not one of his gifts :)

Give A Girl The Right Shoes, and She'll Conquer The World

I remember growing up and wondering what in the world my mom did all day while my brother and I were in school. In my mind it went something like this:
7:30am- Get kids off to school
      7:35am- Back to bed
11:00am- Wake up and watch "Dr.Phil"
      1:00pm- "Days of Our Lives"
      2:30pm- Get out of pajamas
      2:45pm- Kids come home

I'd like this post to be a public apology to my mom, Susie, because it's only after having my own child that I realize being "Mom" is the hardest job in the world. I just pray I can do it half as well as she did! She'd volunteer to help anyone that needed it, have dinner on the table every night at 6:00pm, and keep a spotless house.

All while wearing heels and a french twist. Pretty amazing, right?
Yesterday I had an event and didn't have time to change, so that meant running the dog to the vet (just a check up!), soccer practice, etc. in a skirt and heels. Is it weird that I felt better all day than when I wear my normal "mom uniform"? (In case you're wondering thats Lululemon Yoga Pants.. without the yoga.) I'm not saying I want to look like a Stepford Wife, or that it's only what you look like on the outside that matters, but maybe there's more truth to the saying, "Give a girl the right shoes, and she can conquer the world," than I thought! Am I crazy or do you all feel better when you get dressed up too? Let me know your secrets in the comments!

I got these shoes a few weeks ago and LOVE them! They're super comfortable and now I'm wondering what I wore before I bought them. Also, anyone who knows me knows that turquoise is a neutral in my life and how cute is my bag? Gigi New York does free personalizing, which is perfect for me since my initials will be changing pretty soon! (*All outfit details/links listed under the top picture)

      What I Wore: Easter Lunch

One of the highlights of my week is Sunday, when Ricki and I teach the four year old Life Group (basically Sunday School) at our church because I could be having the worst day but they instantly cheer me up. Hearing each of them say their weekly prayer requests, ask the most unanswerable questions about God ("Why doesn't he have a last name?" is a favorite), and especially seeing Ricki's faith grow as she pours into them each week makes my heart beyond happy.

Now I know it seems a bit.. ok, a lot shallow to think about, but I have a hard time figuring out what to wear every Sunday! I have to be comfortable enough to be able to chase a room full of four year olds around, but also dressy enough to not look underdressed afterwards during the service. One positive to being as short as I am is that I learned how to not only walk, but also be comfortable in heels at a very early age. However, this past Sunday was an exception for even the most experienced girly girl. They put all of the kids classes in one room for the Easter services and there I was, trying to balance one kid on my hip but also play kitchen without stepping on any fingers. So, if you saw a girl walking to her car barefoot after church, it was me. I guess it's God's way of preparing me for the future :)

We went to Tyler's parents house afterwards for lunch and there was no way I was wearing heels, so here's what I wore... And as you can see from our picture, we all decided to do a quick wardrobe change! What are your favorite ways to dress up but still be comfortable? (*Outfit details and links listed under the top picture!)

I'm wearing the "Mindy" necklace from my collection and for some reason I haven't featured it much on the blog. Tassels are huge for spring and I get compliments on this one everywhere I go!

Outfit Of The Day: April 17, 2014

I just got back from a quick day trip to DC last night and was absolutely EXHAUSTED this morning. All I wanted to do was stay in my pajamas and write this blog from the comfort of my bed. Ever have one of those days? Well, being the over-committer that I am, I scheduled a meeting for this morning and unfortunately they wouldn't find my pajama pants as cute as I do. So today I'm sharing my secret for the most comfortable jeans you can buy without the shame of buying "Pajama Jeans" from an infomercial.

Don't even try to say you haven't thought about it!

The Hue Denim Leggings are my go to on days just like today; when you want to look like you put effort into getting ready while still feeling like you're in your comfy clothes. I got them a few weeks ago and wish I had bought them in every color! And unlike normal leggings, since these have seams and pockets I think it's totally acceptable to wear them with shorter tops. I just cuffed mine at the bottom and they look exactly like my beloved Rag & Bone jeans that cut off my circulation!

I'm also wearing the Sally earrings in howlite and the Carly necklace from my jewelry line because every girl knows jewelry is the easiest way to dress up any outfit! Go stock up on earrings at EmilyMaynard.com today because when you buy one pair you get a second 50% off! Just use the code BOGO50 at checkout and hurry because it only lasts until Sunday, April 20th at 11:59pm.

What I Wore: 2nd Grade Class Zoo Trip

Last week Ricki and I went to the Riverbanks Zoo in Columbia, SC with a few of her closest friends... and the entire 2nd grade. Just because I'm nervous one of her teachers will read this, I'm not going to tell you how worried I was that this trip would turn into a nightmare. But it was a lot.

      But really, wouldn't you??

Well, to my surprise, we ended up having a great time and I'm so happy I went because we made some really wonderful memories! Chances are she won't remember the lions or the elephants, but maybe she'll look back and laugh at her mommy being too scared to feed the giraffes. To me, thats worth every bit of 2nd grade class trip craziness!

In Honor of My Middle School Self

      ESPIRIT

      B.U.M.

      Mudd Jeans

      L.E.I.

      Roxy

      Paul Frank

If you're a child of the 90's I have no doubt you have fond memories of begging your mom for each of these brands, right? I vividly remember wearing my Roxy cut offs, a Billabong shirt, and putting my hair in cornrows, finished off with butterfly clips and truly thinking I was Tiffany from "California Dreams".

      Just me? Ok then...

Well in honor of my former, middle school self, I'm bringing back Billabong for today's blog post. But don't worry, I'll leave the cornrows and butterfly clips to Ricki. *Outfit details/links listed under the picture.

What I Wore: Key West Edition

Please tell me I'm not the only one that hates packing for trips. Whether it's a weekend away or in my case, a week in Key West, I always seem to have the biggest suitcase and still nothing to wear. However, it there's one thing The Bachelorette taught me it was how to pack and be prepared for anything.

When I'm going to the beach I always pack some sort of jacket or sweater just in case it gets a little cold at night. Key West was absolutely beautiful, but when the wind picked up on the water I was glad I had my jean jacket! I'm also a huge fan of jumpsuits of any kind and this one is perfect for dressing up or down. For a more casual look just wear a printed undershirt or bralette for a pop of color. And last but not least, don't forget to pack your favorite jewelry! The Claire necklace from my line is perfect because I can wear it for a relaxed day walking around or a fancy dinner.

What are some of your favorite packing tips? Leave them in the comments!

      Work It Out

In my opinion, the gym is one of the last places on earth that you should have to worry about looking cute and goodness knows you don't want to be "That Girl" that has on a face full of makeup. (We've all seen her, right?) However, I need all the motivation I can get and if that means wearing a pair of floral leggings or a lace workout top, then so be it. Maybe that's what has been missing all of these years that I've gone to the gym and left feeling like I've been run over by a Mack truck?

But if you ever see me working out with a full face of makeup, I give you full permission to make fun of me. Just let me have my cute workout clothes. Deal?

Do you know of another website or store that has cute workout clothes? Let me know in the comments!

      (P)inspiration: Dressed Up Denim

This whole wedding planning has been stressful and to be honest, there have been times that we've seriously considered running off to Vegas. I've had many sleepless nights, staying up way past my bedtime while looking through the endless wedding pictures on Pinterest, trying to find my "dream wedding". Well, in true "Emily" fashion, I've gotten side tracked a couple times and find myself looking at everything from baby nurseries (For down the road. Not now. Don't get any ideas!) to the pimped out Airstream I plan on having in my backyard one day. It's absolutely ridiculous and the only reason I'm not completely embarrassed is because every other girl I know has all the exact same pins!

Most of the outfits I pin probably won't ever come in handy unless I suddenly find myself going to galas every weekend or one day move to the beach and get invited to Free People-esque beach parties daily. However, I justify spending so much time on Pinterest by telling myself I'm going to need something to wear to engagement parties, bridal showers, etc.. I may not have a wedding dress yet, but dammit I know what I'm wearing to every other event before and after!

I loved this outfit because it's cute and trendy, but still classic enough that you won't be embarrassed to look at the pictures twenty years down the road. While I was looking around for a floral skirt like the Pinterest picture I came across this amazing Mara Hoffman skirt and I couldn't pass it by. I know it's a different look from the original, but who wants to copy an exact outfit? The fun part of finding inspiration on Pinterest is putting your own spin on it!
