      What I Wore: GMA

One of my (many) New Year's resolutions is to blog more, so I'm trying to get caught up on everything that I should've posted weeks ago. The only reason I tell you all that is so that you can hold me accountable if I start slacking on the blog again! I'm sorry and I'm going to do my best to be more consistent. Don't forget you can click the tab "Ask Emily" at the top and send me any questions or topics you'd like me to cover!

Here's the outfit I wore on GMA a few weeks ago..All the details are listed under the picture but I bought the dress and shoes a while ago, so here are some other similar looks too!

Close ups of the Baylor earrings and Morgan bracelet.. two of my favorites!

Every Girl's Best Friend and Worst Enemy: Black Leggings

If you know me, or even have seen me more than once, you probably know that I can't live without black leggings. They're my favorite, most comfortable piece of clothing and I don't think I could get through winter without them! They enable me to get ready in less than 5 minutes and also stretch when I eat too much. What could be better?

However, as much as I love leggings, they can also be your worst enemy. Ladies, let's all remember this one rule: THEY'RE NOT PANTS. You have to treat them like a thicker pair of tights and if you wouldn't wear tights with a tshirt, don't wear leggings with it either. Your top has to cover your back and front completely, otherwise you need to layer a longer tank underneath. We've all seen that girl that makes you want to tie your own jacket around her waist! For tops that aren't long enough I have a Free People slip thats long so it covers everything. And they come in a bunch of colors, so for less than $30 you'll get your money's worth! Here are some of my favorite tops to wear with leggings this winter!

And here are some of my favorite leggings. Just remember that the cheaper they are, the sooner you're going to have to replace them because they get thinner when you wash them!

Towne & Reese Sample Sale October 25-26th

We all have the friend that has all of her Christmas shopping done before Thanksgiving and while you're running around the mall like a crazy person, she's walking around with a Starbucks laughing at everyone. Every year I say, "I'm going to be THAT person!" And of course, it never happens. But this year, I really mean it. For real.

Ok.. Maybe not. But I'm sure going to try! So, if you're like me and want to get a head start on your shopping, don't miss the famous Towne & Reese Sample Sale! Every female in Charlotte is probably going to want to kill me for letting everyone in on the secret, but it's just too good not to fill you in. All of your favorite Towne & Reese pieces will be up to 80% off! And if you have to justify it to your husband, that means it's basically free, right? They're open on Friday, October 25th from 10am-6pm and Saturday, October 26th from 10am-2pm at Park Road Shopping Center.. right next to BlackHawk Hardware. I hope to see some of you there!

PS- You might see some surprises from my jewelry line, too!

      Multiple (Fashion) Personalities

If someone asked you to describe your style, what words would you use? Sounds like a simple question, right? Well if you're like me and your style changes with the wind, it's a little harder than it sounds. Some days I wake up and want to wear ripped jeans... the next I want to wear a girly A-line dress .. and then throw on leggings and combat boots the day after. No wonder men have such a hard time figuring us out!

What I've learned is that no matter what you wear, there's always a way to incorporate your personality into your outfit. I can wear a super lady like dress (like this one from Hunter Bell) but I'm never going to be the "pearl-wearing" kind of girl, so I'd rather use accessories to put my own spin on a classic look. For this look I'm wearing the Taylor earrings, Morgan bracelets, and Ashley ring from my jewelry line, Emily Maynard for Towne & Reese.. none of which have any pearls, but still look just as chic and classic, right? I especially love the art deco look of the Taylor earrings and know I'll be wearing them a lot during the holidays!

Being a girl is hard enough, so don't let trying to keep up with the trends drive you crazy and just wear what makes you feel good. Even if that means not having three adjectives to be able to describe your style. I mean, lets be real.. How boring is that???

Leather pants AND a sale on one of my favorite jewelry combinations? Best. Day. Ever.

Last week I did a post about putting away the yoga pants, at least on days that you and I both know we the only work out we're going to get is MAYBE putting away some laundry. Well, this week I'm going to dare you to try something other than jeans. I know, it seems like I'm black listing pants in general, but I promise I'm not! I just know that I always feel better on the inside when I feel like I look cute on the outside.

Vain? Probably. Do 99% of girls feel the same way? Absolutely.

We all have our favorite pair of jeans that we wear with pretty much everything. (My faves are from Zara and Rag & Bone.) And I'll be the first to say that good fitting jeans are hard to beat, but why not change it up once in a while? Try throwing on a pair of leather (or faux leather) pants with the exact same outfit you were going to wear with your jeans! Just remember not to get them too tight or else you'll end up looking like Sandy from Grease. Or Ross from Friends.

For this look I wanted my look to be a little edgier, so I wore my WildFox tshirt and leopard cardigan. The exact cardigan is from Pacific Sunwear forever ago, but you could totally get any leopard sweater and add studs to the shoulders. Whats cooler than telling everyone you made your top yourself?

For accessories I knew I wanted a statement necklace, so I'm wearing my Virginia necklace and Kira earrings so they don't compete with each other. I also threw on the Natalie bracelet because God knows I can't leave the house without something on my wrist! This is one of my favorite jewelry combinations because it's so versatile and I always get a million compliments! I have worn it to church with a sundress or, like I am in todays post, with a tshirt and it always adds that special touch to any outfit. And guess what? You can get all three pieces on sale as a set! But hurry up because it's only for 72 hours and when they're gone, they're gone for good! So, click HERE and send me pictures of how you wear your fabulous combination! I promise it will become one of your favorites too!

(P)inspiration: Put Away The Yoga Pants

If my uniform in the summer is a maxi dress, then in the winter it's leggings. I seriously spend more time than I care to admit searching for the perfect pair of leggings and shirts long enough to cover my butt.

For the record, my favorite leggings are these from BCBG and these from LNA. And Victoria's Secret has the best selection of long shirts that are great for layering in the winter!

Someone sent me this picture from Pinterest and I immediately loved it! I think it combines everything we're looking for in an everyday, running-around-doing-errands, look.. comfort and cute being the top two on my list. And to be honest, cute has been falling behind for quite some time now. So, let's hold each other accountable for at least LOOKING like we put some effort into our outfits. Friends don't let friends who have no plans of working out wear yoga pants everyday, right?

It's Officially October.. So It's Pretty Much Christmas, Right?

I admit that I can be a bit dramatic, but I'm a girl so that gives me a "get out of jail free" pass once in a while right? Well, I was talking to my friend and said, "Can you believe it's almost Christmas?!" Obviously they laughed because it's barely October, but I feel like once you see your first Halloween decoration the holiday season is basically here and the months fly by. So that technically means it's almost Christmas, right?

That got me thinking about Christmas parties, New Years Eve.... maybe even Valentine's Day if I'm really reaching. In all aspects of my life I'm not the best planner except for when it comes to what I'm going to wear. In that area, I like to be prepared! So, I wanted to come up with some different outfits that will save me from wearing the same typical/boring outfit me and every other girls wears to every holiday party.

I love adding belts to outfits because, just like jewelry, you can take a basic dress and really dress it up and completely change it's look. I added this ribbon belt to my dress from E's Closet Boutique (they have the cutest dresses at super affordable prices!), some sky high heels that I can barely walk in, a hot pink clutch, and I'm ready to walk (slowly) out the door! I'm also wearing the Corrinne earrings from my jewelry line that I absolutely love.. They have a "Great Gatsby"/ vintage vibe!

What do you all think? What are some other ways to dress up your favorite basic dresses?

      What I'm Wearing Today 9/11/13

If you've ever read my blog, you've probably noticed I love me some shorts and a blazer. It's my go-to for most days when I have something more exciting than the grocery store and carpool!

      Whats your "go-to" outfit?

PS- I apologize for being the worst "selfie" taker ever. It's just so awkward, right?? If only I could teach my dog to take them :)

      Fashion (P)inspiration: Date Night Edition

I have this friend who can easily spend hours on Pinterest, looking at outfits she'll never buy, food she'll never make, and craft projects she'd kill herself doing. But yet, I... I mean SHE.. still does it.

Ok, whatever. We're all the same. We all do it, right? But you know what makes me so mad? When I click on the outfit and it doesn't tell me where I can buy all the pieces! Whats the point?! So, I want to try something new on the blog! You guys tweet me (@EmilyMaynard) or tag me in an Instagram picture (@emilygmaynard) of an outfit you're dying to recreate and I'll feature as many as I can right here! And since this was the kick off, I figured it would be ok to include the leopard print Louboutins I've been losing sleep over but I'll try to keep the prices as low as I can. Promise.

What looks are you guys trying to recreate? Let me know in the comments!

*Sorry I can't find the original picture from this outfit! In the future I'll always post the original.

      RIP Summer 2013

With much sadness in my heart, I'm here to announce that summer is almost over. The kids are back in school.. Bright, summer dresses are replaced with leather and fur in all my favorite stores... And now that Labor Day is over, most of our summer vacations are in the past. However, that doesn't necessarily mean we have to move our summer clothes to the back of the closet just yet.

One of my favorite things to wear in the summer is a maxi dress/skirt because a.) they're comfortable b.) they're cute c.) no one can tell if your legs haven't seen this sun since 1993. So, as the weather starts to get cooler, you can still get away with wearing what I like to call one of "God's gifts to women" but simply adding a cute sweater and some fun accessories. I'm wearing my Sedley necklace with this look and love how it adds a little bit of color, while still being a neutral that will go with pretty much anything.

Now go outside and enjoy the warm weather while you can!

How are you going to transition your summer pieces into fall? Leave your tips in the comments!

Here are some great skirts and sweaters that can ease your "summers-over-depression"! :)
