If someone asked you to describe your style, what words would you use? Sounds like a simple question, right? Well if you’re like me and your style changes with the wind, it’s a little harder than it sounds. Some days I wake up and want to wear ripped jeans… the next I want to wear a girly A-line dress .. and then throw on leggings and combat boots the day after. No wonder men have such a hard time figuring us out!
What I’ve learned is that no matter what you wear, there’s always a way to incorporate your personality into your outfit. I can wear a super lady like dress (like this one from Hunter Bell) but I’m never going to be the “pearl-wearing” kind of girl, so I’d rather use accessories to put my own spin on a classic look. For this look I’m wearing the Taylor earrings, Morgan bracelets, and Ashley ring from my jewelry line, Emily Maynard for Towne & Reese.. none of which have any pearls, but still look just as chic and classic, right? I especially love the art deco look of the Taylor earrings and know I’ll be wearing them a lot during the holidays!
Being a girl is hard enough, so don’t let trying to keep up with the trends drive you crazy and just wear what makes you feel good. Even if that means not having three adjectives to be able to describe your style. I mean, lets be real.. How boring is that???

I am the exact same way! It’s so hard when people ask me to describe my style.. I start rambling on about how I am a combination of boho, edgy, girly, and a little preppy. I love to mix elements from different styles.

I would like to say you always look fabulous no matter what you wear, and I think that may be because you’re a happy person. Anyway, with that said, I would like to get some of your ideas on items in the budget range of the average single moms. I’m a single mom of 2 guys, they are college aged, and I can’t possibly afford a dress that’s $100 let alone one that’s $425, and I work for Macys Corporate so I even get discounts at Macy’s and Bloomingdales! I don’t live in a huge 2 story, I live in a modest split level home that’s 25 years old and in desperate need of fixing up! I get easily discouraged, as I’m sure other average moms do, because even purchasing a nice pair of boots or a new comforter takes saving up for a couple of weeks! Any tips for us?

Trust me, I feel your pain! I know it seems like I post a lot of expensive stuff, but I try to do a good balance. I mean, it’s fun to dream! Also, I save my money for big splurges that I know I’ll have for a long time.. pocketbooks.. shoes.. stuff like that. And then I shop at store like Target, Forever 21, Zara, H&M, etc for more fun, trendy clothing. I also wear a lot of basics (leggings and a long tshirt) and then change it up with a sweater and fun jewelry.
I completely agree with you! I love putting my own spin on outfits and feel the same that men will never get us women.. lol. On that note, you look stunning as usual and that dress is totally a piece that I would pick up for myself. Thanks so much for another amazing post Emily!

I find the juxtaposition of your style so interesting Emily. You seem to have a classic style but you’re drawn to tribal and/or nature driven pieces of jewelry. I expected you to be draped in pearl necklaces and diamond stud earrings so I find your conflicting style refreshing.
It’s good to hear your advice about buying some cheaper clothing at times and then dolling them up with accessories. I need to slowly add to my accessory pile and keep them up to date. I always feel so much more stylish when wearing the added jewelry. You look beyond beautiful, dressed up or dressed down!! Gorgeous.

The jacket I bought is sold out 🙁 but it was very similar to hers except the studs lined opening and not shoulders.
I do this with alot of items she posts, I keep it similar to hers but make it my own by making it something I’d actually wear and not just because it looks great on her!

So true em! Please don’t laugh at me everyone but when people ask what my style is I usually just say emily maynard! Lol I know it sounds lame or totally creepy, but when emily first started appearing in all those dumb magazines (which are my guilty pleasure, sorry em) I would notice that I had similar outfits. I never watched the bachelor when it was on but people would tell me my style is similar to “that pretty girl on the bachelor” haha. Now I can see how totally big of a compliment that was. Emily is like a style icon in herself. If that makes sense? I don’t know haha but I’m sure plenty of people would agree with me! Love you em! Xoxo

I love this look! I agree with Emily, fashion isn’t about buying the exact article of clothing that you see in a magazine or website that may be out of your budget. It’s about getting ideas and then making them yours (and staying in your own budget). However, I must know, what is the style of that Channel purse? It is my dream purse. I may never get it but a girl can dream! 🙂

The dress is gorgeous but unfortunately it is not at the link you provided. Is it no longer available? I find it continually disappointing that a lot of the beautiful clothes and shoes you wear in your blog posts are unavailable - at the time of your post. Similar situation with the boyfriend grey leopard cardigan given as an alternative cardigan idea in your last post. It was no longer available on the link you gave. The items you suggest are beautiful but they are either crazy expensive for most people or simply not available/sold out.

Love this look - and that bag is fantastic!!! The Chanel boy bag is number one on my wishlist right now. I feel like my style changes day by day, but I always have my basics that I go back to. I totally agree with the thought that you should wear what makes you feel good - who cares what people think anyways!?
